Big Top Ballet Publishing

This September we’re looking forward as we enter into the foray of book and story publishing this coming year.

Big Top Ballet Inc. originally launched publishing apps and games for mobile devices, achieving #1 Mac Music game for it’s title release in 2012. App and game development has been exciting and fulfilling as a process. From the very beginning of this creative adventure, incorporating story into Big Top Ballet games and apps has been a goal. Yet not all stories compliment a digital game or app. Storytelling has been a cornerstone to humanity. Whether allegory, fiction, true life events, story and story telling is how we use our imagination to connect to others and understand our own humanity.

To leap into the craft of story telling, this September 9th, 2019 we are releasing an ebook short story fiction titled - Journey to The Underworld. Journey to the Underworld is also a chapter of our first and forthcoming novel, titled ‘Lady Lazarus’ due for publication next Autumn of 2020. Although both Journey to the Underworld and Lady Lazarus are fiction, the idea for the story was inspired by the author’s own ‘journey to underworld’ during her experience with open heart surgery this past Spring.

Comedy & Tragedy

As Shakespeare wrote, ‘All the World's a Stage’! To celebrate, we have created a PopSocket design depicting Thalia the Muse of Comedy and Melpomene the Muse of Tragedy for Theatre Lovers. Thalia and Melpomene are 2 of the 9 Muses of Greek the nymph goddesses behind inspiration for all the arts, sciences and literature. If you’re creating anything you might want to get on their good side, especially the Muse with a focus on your domain.

OPEN LETTER

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Increasingly over the past 2 years, every time I looked at our projects, reminded of all the ideas and concepts I wanted to complete, I would get this overwhelming feeling of being unable to finish. Sometimes a gut wrenching internal reminder, fuelling an overarching fear of not having enough time or resources to succeed.

In response, I took a measured approach to start again. Shorten our timeline and bit by bit build up with a growing focus on illustration and story. Then insanely beautiful, wonder driven games could follow a stronger focus on story. Part of this new approach was a decision to move Big Top Ballet Inc. to New York City in 2018. Follow a dream, follow my heart. Plans are still in place to move my family. Just one snag, big dreams often come with facing the very thing that frightens you most.

This past Christmas, I sat with my cardiologist after a twelve year hiatus from what had been for me a life long nuisance of annual check ups for a congenital heart condition. These to monitor the rate of stenosis of a bicuspid aortic valve which I so happen to have. In this appointment I was asked about my symptoms which I had been attributing to the stressors of life.

Long story short, I’ll be having open heart surgery as soon as possible. I always prayed I would never have to endure something that felt so vulnerable and scary as having my rib cage cut open with the core of my being exposed. I always hoped I could escape this fate. Personally as a mother to a young daughter, I was cut to bring her into this world, and so it is a small sacrifice to be cut again that I may be here for her as she becomes her own woman and God willing a mother herself. After solid research into my options, we’ve found the best doctor to perform what is a complex surgery that offers the best quality of life and longterm outlook without meds or complications.

I’m grateful to all the people who went before me. Those who had the courage 30 or more years ago, and that are still around today. People who shared photos of their scars and stories. To all the surgeons and engineers working on improving surgical tools and practices. There’s been tens of thousands of people improving and working to make this process easier that someone like me should be able to count on more love, more time and more life with my husband, daughter and the living people of this world.

Yours truly,

Elizabeth Boylan

March Magic!

Spellbound_pasdedeux_800p.png

Spring cleaning has begun. Out with the old and in with the new. We're sifting through everything in our plans, projects, servers and connections and working on a better, faster, more fantastic version of Big Top Ballet Inc.

It's a little bit of magic cleaning up and letting go. Acknowledging what has worked, what has failed  and what didn't get enough 'magic' otherwise known in studio terms as 'productive attention'.

Things that we're happy with: Google Cloud and App Engine for our online games, Unity for Game Development, Adobe and Autodesk for Game Asset creation, Evernote for project notes and task management and although we haven't completely integrated, Gamesparks looks promising.

Some changes that we're excited about include: a switch to G Suite services, full domain transfer to Squarespace.com (Thank you, Keanu Reeves! ), and perhaps the biggest change is our Spring move to New York City and becoming an American company. Some of the  behind the scenes magic that we wanted to share.

Happy Easter Bunny

Happy Easter Bunny Ballerina Costume Sticker Art

Just as soon as all the Valentine's chocolates and gifts have disappeared from store shelves, new stock for Easter (chocolate and pastel jelly beans) shows up. Spring is the season for new beginnings to which Easter is synonymous. There's nothing like a fresh start. Although Easter isn't here until April 16th, in anticipation we've added an Easter Bunny Ballerina sticker to OMG! for iMessage.  Bunnies do have a tendencies to multiply quickly. So who knows, maybe we will make room for more.
